UCCS Building New Roof-Top Soccer Field

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. — University of Colorado-Colorado Springs (UCCS)  is making some unique changes to it’s campus. It’s building a five-story parking garage with a roof-top soccer field.

According to UCCS, there’s been a lot of growth at the school, so expanding is the right thing to do.

With the new five-story parking garage, the school is hoping it will give students less of a headache come the new semester.

“The university has experienced about a 35% growth in the last 10 years and so we had to add parking to be able to keep up with that enrollment demand,” said Jim Spice, Executive Director of Parking & Transportation.

It’s a few weeks off from being done, but just imagine a roof-top field, complete with spectator stands.

“The fifth level is the field level which is going to house our intermural sports, mostly soccer, a little bit of lacrosse, and flag football,” said Spice.

The field and the parking garage are just part of the expansion, there’s also been a demand for more dorms.

“Once completed it’ll be about another 510 beds that they’re adding to this area so it’ll be nice to have housing students be able to park to where they’re actually living,” said Spice.
